Privacy Policy for The Diary

Effective Date: May 1, 2026

The Diary ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our application.

1. Information Collection and Use

1.1 Journal Entries

All your journal entries are stored locally on your device in an AES-256 encrypted database and synchronized with Google Firebase (if enabled). If you additionally enable content encryption, your journal text is encrypted before leaving your device, and only you hold the key.

1.2 AI Insights

We use Vertex AI for Firebase (Gemini) to provide personalized insights. This feature requires your explicit consent inside the app. To generate insights, a summary of your recent entries is sent to the AI service. This data is used only for generation and is not used to train global AI models.

1.3 Media Attachments

Photos and audio recordings are stored in Firebase Storage. These are private to your account and only accessible by you.

1.4 Health Data

With your permission, The Diary can read sleep, steps, heart rate, and exercise data from Apple Health or Health Connect to create private mood correlations. Health data is processed for your insights only and is never sold or shared.

1.5 Subscription Data

We use RevenueCat to manage premium subscriptions. RevenueCat processes transaction data but does not have access to your journal content.
